Obituary of David Gassaway

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Lee “Peanut” Gassaway, 54, husband of Shelley Ann Smith Gassaway, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Mr. Gassaway was born in Spartanburg to the late David Franklin Gassaway and Judy Ann Tucker Gassaway.  He worked for Trimac Transportation.  Peanut enjoyed hunting and fishing, particularly catfishing at Santee Lake.  He had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel.  He was an Alabama football fan and also a collector of Jeff Gordon NASCAR memorabilia.  If you visited the home, you would find his TV tuned into the Andy Griffith Show or a classic Western movie.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Gaelyn Jackson with husband Wayde, LaDora Smith and Denise Hubbard; two sons, Ricky Hubbard with wife Bailey, and Jacob Hubbard; a sister, Michelle Walker with husband Charlie; seven grandchildren, Abby, JoJo, Jayden, Jackson, Carson, Hensley and Harper; a special niece, Brittany Bonneau (Nick) and his great-nephew, Christopher “Tater” Bonneau; his beloved dogs, Sophie Possom, Biscuit Marie, BeBe Bernard and Brutus Brutmeister; and his DaVita Palmetto Dialysis Clinic team (Clinton and Fountain Inn) family.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday at Fletcher Funeral Service.

A Celebration of Peanut’s Life will be 3 o’clock Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral Service.  Burial will be in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation – SC Office, PO Box 195, Columbia, SC 29201.
